For the record, I don’t think pain that keeps you from living your life, including traveling to new places, is a champagne problem! I’m glad you found a new doctor who actually seems to care, and I hope you find relief. 🫶
CARRRRRLEEEEEEYYYYY! I’m so sad you have borne this pain so long but grateful for your writing about it. And glad you are on a path toward relief. So much of your post resonates. I really needed this at this exact moment. Thank you!!! 🥰 (gentle non pain inducing hugs) (also would love to hear more about how you manage your responses to facial expressions in the classroom) 💯✔️
Thank you Amy for reading and for the pain empathy. It means a lot to me!
I’ve kind of trained myself to remember that sometimes facial expressions have nothing to do with me AND if they are really projecting a lot of suffering/misery out into the room in an ongoing way, I check in after class and say something like, “Hey I may be wrong but your facial expressions look like something is bothering you. Is there anything going on you want to talk about?”
💗arrrrrrrgh! physical pain in a largely inaccessible city is so isolating and scary. I’m grateful for the few benches that still stand around my neighborhood. navigating life with a 6 year old would be much harder without them. I also do PT for my back and though i am getting stronger, knowing those benches are there makes it easier to go out cuz I know I won’t be stuck should my back
decide to spasm. So much energy goes into strategizing, and negotiating, and reminding. chronic stress from hustle culture, institutional isms, and whatever we deal with as individuals, is grinding us down to the studs. and then there’s long covid! BODIES! it is hard enough to experience pain, but to get no relief for almost a year is so shitty! I am so glad you finally did find a provider who listens. it makes all the difference. thank you for sharing
Thank you for reading and commenting! We really do need some benches. Yeah, it’s like we’re not supposed to have bodies. I’m sorry for your back pain. I hope it’s getting better.

You’re right! Thank you Shayne 💜🩷💜🩷
I love your writing so much. The description of pressure on/pressure off for students and parenting ... is it also another way to think of the body?
I think it is! Maybe you’ve teased out what I was trying to get to unconsciously somehow or couldn’t fully figure out. Thank you! 🩷🩷🩷🩷
This: “Little boys who were never allowed to cry make great authoritarians.”
You know I love when you remind me to rest— it’s a reminder we all need before we break ourselves! ❤️
We really do need to rest! Otherwise we’ll be so sad!!
Amazing, thank you for sharing this!
Thank you for reading!! 🩷
Thanks for sharing all this. Especially the clarity about pushing vs leaving space - a great reminder.
May you be pain free soon!
Thank you! ✨💜✨
You are always great to me!
