So much good stuff in this. I have to say, I actually felt like Rick meeting his father without realizing it was a bit too obvious for me. I’m actually surprised people were surprised. The way he says Rick’s Moms name back to him during the first confrontation sounded like “her??” in a “I totally forgot about that person I slept with” kind of way. I was actually thrown off by Jim proceeding to refer to his dad as a separate person following that.

Ultimately I was disappointed that we didn’t really get to see Rick marinate in the carnage he created. I would’ve like for him and Tim to suffer more actually. Maybe I’m the odd one out on this but I feel like Tim being (mostly) capable of a murder-suicide is actually somewhat unforgivable and I don’t care that he wants to be a good dad now. Who’s to say he won’t go back to wanting to do the same when they get home?

But yeah, love your takes ❤️

Thanks for reading Ashley! I love hearing your takes! Also I hope I can see you in June in Berlin! I missed the second part of your comment yesterday. I agree about Rick and Tim, especially Tim though I feel like his own deeper personal hell is coming for him as his family turns on him for bankrupting and shaming them. But yeah his drug addled refusal to be present for the whole trip is awful. And that he would rather kill his family than face up to who and what he’s created is pretty fucked up.

I didn’t see the Rick-I-Am-Your-Father thing coming, mostly because that whole plot line seemed to me so external to the relationships actually happening in realtime at the resort, I thought.

Good point. Maybe that's why I missed it too.

Yeah in retrospect I think pretty obvious lol but as I wrote I’m pretty bad at surprise plot things. I so rarely see them coming.

Really enjoyed your take on WL! As a rich white Buddhist-wannabe I was thoroughly cringed-out at Piper's turning up her nose at the conditions at the monastery, and yet nodding my head: "Yeah I would miss those creature comforts." Also your comments on the Lochlan/Saxon (those names! LOL) "interface" were hilarious.

I also felt that the Thai characters were a little thin, but hey what do I know?

LOVED Laurie's monologue, totally heartfelt. And bummed about Chelsea! She should have lived IMHO. Didn't care that Rick died.

My fave character was Belinda. Her morally ambiguous decision makes sense in such a fucked-up world. At least someone came out ahead.

Keep it up Carley.

I loved Laurie’s monologue also! As a person who was the longtime single friend among women whose lives were much more put together, I thought it was a fantastic representation of an often not represented part of female friendship.

As a single mom it really resonated with me too!

Haha this is why I love you Hovey! You’re always reflective about yourself! I also wouldn’t stay in that monastery because well, disabled and I’m too old! Also I hate religion of every kind lol. Thanks for reading and giving me courage! Saxon and Lochlan Take Manhattan! I feel a romcom coming on!
